(Photo above: Created by Genievive Graham, circa 2019) The 9th grade team has a project with a design process and community partner. It's called Social Justice Design and the driving question is "How could we use empathy and critical thinking to design a solution to a real problem in our community?" I'm going to answer a few questions below regarding the blog post. What is a design process? A design process is a process that we've carried out through the first three weeks of this project. The process is empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. We carry out this process while designing something to help a community partner. Who is your community partner? My groups partner is Napa Bicycle Coalition. This community partner is working on getting every youth citizen to bike by holding community events and making biking ¨cool¨ What was your overall goal? My overall goal was to meet the needs and create a solution for my community partner. Empathy - What did you think empathy was before your empathy interview? What did you learn? What would you did differently next time? Before my interview I thought empathy was to understand people, truly. I learned that the interview questions for an interview definitely need to be more open ended than what I thought previously. Stay open and not too focused on certain topics. Let the person be interviewed have free range and be comfortable.
Thanks for reading my blog post on my social justice design project! More updates to come.
